GOD'S NEWEST DISCIPLE? 'DEXTER' SEASON SIX

It's all God's work for DEXTER in Season Six. Images: SHOWTIME.

Dedicated brutality and long bouts of bloody horrific violence have gone glove in hand with aspects of religious history since the dawn of time, and now our favourite Miami serial killer on the side of the good guys (or, in this case, the angels!), Dexter Morgan, as well played as ever by the mercurial but ravenously deadly Michael C. Hall, is now getting in on the act, seemingly embracing God in his quest/vendetta to find a pair of fanatical serial killers, calling themselves The Doomsday Killers, at gruesome work in his home turf in the eagerly awaited in the UK sixth series of the SHOWTIME black comedy/drama hit DEXTER, arriving on the FX HD channel on March 30th at 10pm.

The armageddon factor? Travis Marshall (Colin Hanks) and Professor Gellar (Edward James Olmos)
Number One Dad! Dexter searches for clues with son Harrison.
On the case with Quinn (Desmond Harrington), sister Deb (Jennifer Carpenter) and Angel (David Zayas).
Dexter continues to get murderous advice from his late dad, Harry (James Remar).
Back in uniform, Lauren Velez as Captain Maria LaGuerta.

Memorable killers/foes to our instinctive hero, played by great actors, have long been an equal part of the shows success, and DEXTER is lucky enough to have the no doubt formidable and chilling duo of character acting great Edward James Olmos (best known for his work on MIAMI VICE and as combat stalwart Commander Adama in the modern BATTLESTAR GALACTICA series) and Colin Hanks, son of Tom (impressively following in his father footsteps these last ten years or so), as the possessed with God pairing of Professor James Gellar and Travis Marshall at horrific blood soaked work in Florida trying to bring about the end of the world through murders akin to the Bible's Book of Revelation. Other fine guest star support comes from singer/actor Mos Def as Brother Sam, another murderer now steeped in religious cleansing, HEROES lovely quicksilver, Brea Grant, as forensics intern Ryan Chambers, soon getting pervie body analyst Vince Masuka's attention, and Aimee Garcia as the new, more youthful nanny to lone parent Dex's forceful young son, Harrison. There's another past surprise on the horizon, but we're not going to spoil it!

In other plots through the 12 episode series, Dexter's use of the Trinity Killer re-direction from last season comes back to bite him, whilst his sister, Deborah (Jennifer Carpenter), gets a new promotion to Lieutenant whilst also heightening her relationship with fellow cop, Quinn (Desmond Harrington). Meanwhile, lovers and senior officers Maria LaGuerta (Lauren Velez) and Angel Batista (David Zayas) try to pick up the pieces of their failed marriage, made even more complicated by other work upsets within the department, and the possible presence of Deputy Chief Matthews (Geoff Pierson) as a murder suspect in a later unravelling side-plot case.

Red devil! Michael C. Hall continues to enjoy the challenges of being Dexter!

Never a series to stray away from controversy, you have to hand it to the DEXTER writer/producers for keeping the show fresh and interesting. And let's face it, anything to do with religion these days is certainly going to attract attention! As the series makes its way to its final seasons, there's also more likely disturbing story elements to surface, no doubt Debra's discovery of who her brother really is and his past deeds, and the opportunity to show us how she'll react to it all. Further rumours hint at some kind of incest, too, so be prepared, as things might surely never be the same again for the Dexter family line!

DEXTER seasons one to five are also available on Blu-ray and DVD.
