That lovable and fearless warrior, Chewbacca the Wookiee, makes his animated debut soon in THE CLONE WARS. Image: LUCASFILM ANIMATION. |
As the last half of the third season of the hugely successful STAR WARS: THE CLONE WARS series, showing exclusively in the UK on SKY MOVIES HD (and in second season repeats on the CARTOON NETWORK), rushes towards its exciting conclusion (but don't worry, there's at least two more years of action and adventure to come on the horizon), fans worldwide are enjoying the series ever improving and highly ambitious animation and its fine fusioning of characters, planets and other elements from the Classic Trilogy of George Lucas's created films from 1977 to 1983 into its weekly tales, and with the overall story-telling cleverly shifting closer to the doom-laden events of EPISODE III: REVENGE OF THE SITH. This week (and the next two Saturdays to come) have already seen the enjoyable return of the soon-to-be villainous Imperial henchman Tarkin (as originally played on screen by the late Peter Cushing), but the nostalgic STAR WARS connections will hit the big league immediately after THE CITADEL trilogy with the return of the lovable 200 year old Wookiee warrior, and co-pilot to Han Solo, Chewbacca (played on film by Peter Mayhew, who specially offered his unique body language and distinctive walk as reference to the CLONE WARS series animators), in an epic two-part adventure where, alongside Jedi Padawan Ahsoka Tano, our furry hero, cut-off from his home world, is caught up in a conflict with his races evil nemeses: the reptilian, highly dangerous Trandoshan slavers. From what's been shown so far footage-wise, it promises to be both great television and great STAR WARS, too!
