WATCH YOUR BACK, STEVE! THE SEASON ONE FINALE OF "HAWAII FIVE-O"

An explosive situation for McGarrett (Alex O'Loughlin) and Governor Jameson (Jean Smart) in the season finale of HAWAII FIVE-O. Images: CBS PARAMOUNT.
The dangerous pursuit by Steve McGarrett (Alex O'Loughlin) towards the villainous mobster Wo Fat (Mark Dacascos) reaches critical mass in the Season One finale of HAWAII FIVE-O, airing on the SKY ONE HD channel this Sunday evening. The running story arc, carefully plotted out by the series writers, has easily been amongst the shows many highlights in its premiere year and promises to be both eventful and action packed, with change in the air imminent from its aftermath for the shows second season, airing in the US later in the fall.

The ever reliable Danny Williams (Scott Caan) is on the case.
Charlie Fong (Brian Yang) returns to aid the team.
Steve McGarrett: witness protector!
Overall, the new re-imagined HAWAII FIVE-O, originally created in the sixties by Leonard Freeman, has pretty much lived up to my personal expectations. It had a very slick and classy pilot episode that brought all of our main characters into the series very effectively, but episodes after that were a bit of a mixed bag, with some being a little bit too CSI: HAWAII for my tastes, though from its mid-point onwards the show got its second wind and was soon turning out some very good action tales, had improved the characterisations, saw in the emergence of the often hilarious "bromance" between Steve McGarrett-Alex O'Loughlin playing the ultimate boy scout hero with a heart, in a nicely played and very different, but just as determined to get his man or woman, performance to that of the late, great Jack Lord- and Danny "Danno" Williams-the consistently excellent Scott Caan, and had some fun semi-series support from the likes of the always fun Taylor Wily as native islander Kamekona. There were also some very good guests stars this season (including Puff Daddy, who, I think is getting one step nearer towards his personal ambitions in playing a black James Bond!, Kelly Hu, James Russo, Robert Loggia (a veteran star of the original series) and Cary-Hirouki Tagawa) and special mention must be made of James Marsters, who kicked the show off as McGarrett's first nemesis, Victor Hesse, and was ultimately revealed as one of Wo Fat's key assassins. I have the feeling that the additional plot lines linked to Fat- relating to McGarrett's late father (played by William Sadler) and his mysterious object filled trunk -will eventually go off into several new directions and keep us all guessing for at least another season, which should be fun...
The series main villain-Wo Fat, as played by Mark Dacascos.
Next season (airing September States-side), look out for the return of ex-HEROES Masi Oka in more episodes as the shows resident coroner, Dr. Max Bergman, a new romantic interest to McGarrett who's just as much of a kick-ass as he is, the intro of LOST's Terry O Quinn in a semi regular role as an old Navy buddy of Steve's, Tom Sizemore, always reliable as a baddie, as I'm sure he'll soon prove to be as the trouble-making head of Hawaii's Internal Affairs division investigating the Five-O team for a new story arc, and Richard T. Jones.

KOOL TV OVERALL SERIES RATING: 3 out of 5

The first season of the re-imagined HAWAII FIVE-O is expected on DVD by September 2011 in the US.
