Enemies to the left of me, enemies to the right of me! Nucky Johnson (Steve Buscemi) continues his corrupt life and business style in Season Two of BOARDWALK EMPIRE. Image: HBO. |
Martin Scorsese's HBO made period concoction epic of guns, gals, mobs and wide scale corruption across both sides of crime and law enforcement-BOARDWALK EMPIRE-is back on SKY ATLANTIC HD next Saturday (8th October) for another evocative and brutal run. And it looks set to build ever further on its already lavish storytelling front, as well as its often shocking realistic violence, from what had been seen previously, with good reviews for its opening episode States-side. Steve Buscemi will also no doubt continue to impress as Atlantic City's creepy and dangerously manipulative Treasurer, Nucky Johnson, fighting against a planned takeover of his Prohibition-era dominion, alongside a strong continuing cast of supporting character actors (of particular note Michael Shannon, soon to be seen in the new SUPERMAN movie as nasty General Zod, as FBI Agent Van Alden, and the always slimy and impressive Dabney Coleman).

Here's the most recent Press Release for the series from SKY ATLANTIC:
On Saturday 8th October at 9pm, Boardwalk Empire makes its highly-anticipated return to Sky Atlantic HD with a second season of exceptional drama. |
Having collected two Golden Globes® and been nominated for 18 Emmy® Awards, the ratings-winner returns with guns blazing as shrewd Atlantic City treasurer Nucky Johnson (Steve Buscemi) faces a serious threat to his position from those he considered his closest allies. As season one ended, viewers were left wondering how the cards would fall for a number of the city’s big players as Jimmy (Michael Pitt), Eli (Shea Whigham) and the Commodore (Dabney Coleman) united over their mutual resentment of Nucky. As season two gets underway, Nucky is bracing himself for betrayal as well as dealing with an investigation into voter fraud which could leave him facing jail time. Meanwhile, mobsters like Arnold Rothstein (Michael Stuhlbarg), Lucky Luciano (Vincent Piazza), and Al Capone (Stephen Graham) wait in the wings, looking for the chance to grab a bigger piece of Nucky’s pie and Agent Van Alden struggles to balance his high moral values with his actions. Described by The Times as “utterly absorbing” and “grand, gripping and punchily emotive” by Radio Times, the first season of Boardwalk Empire launched to over 1 million viewers*. Returning to the channel this autumn, the show promises no let-up in the quality of storytelling, aesthetic and casting with family at the heart of the plot. Creator and Executive producer Terence Winter said: “The main theme of season two is family – what is it? What is it not? How far will one go to protect it?” Find out as the brand new series premieres exclusively on Sky Atlantic HD. Created by Terence Winter, Boardwalk Empire is executive produced by Terence Winter, Martin Scorsese, Tim Van Patten, Stephen Levinson and Mark Wahlberg; co-executive produced by Gene Kelly and Howard Korder; produced by Joseph Iberti and Rick Yorn. |
