Caught in the paradoxes of existence- the cast of FRINGE. Image: FOX. |
Has Peter Bishop truly been wiped out from Human existence?
That's the frightening and intriguing question to be answered across the storytelling platform of the entire new fourth season of the cult hit FOX sci-fi series FRINGE, which returns this week to sophisticatedly baffle and entertain audiences on SKY ONE HD a mere few days after its US premiere last weekend. And its not just the fact that he's physically gone from time and space, but its all the ramifications that go with his disappearance, too, meaning that anyone who ever met, knew, or loved him-like scientist father Walter (as ever brilliantly played by John Noble, his character the catalyst for al the problems affecting the Earth and its opposite, parallel universe from the start) and FBI agent Olivia Dunham (the lovely Anna Torv), his FBI FRINGE Division partner in investigation and former lover (and whose opposite, known as "Fauxlivia", was also pregnant with his child)- within this newly created third alternate Earth, brought into reality by Peter from the near destruction of the two universes-have now completely forgotten him as well!

With three previous seasons of mind-boggling but inventive and epic storytelling- a realm of balance and imbalance-its going to be very interesting to see just how much further they can go with the series and its format without further bewildering and confusing casual viewers any further-we're now past the point, like the later seasons of LOST, where I feel the show will be able to bring in new viewers. Following on from the loss of Peter and this newly created Earth, however, the series producers have promised a jaw dropping series to come, full of inventive and unusual twists, shocks, surprises and revelations galore, which many of the main cast consider to be like a glorious series reset button for the shows existing format (though the two parallel universe alternates will also continue to inter-act with one another, as seen in last season's finale). Certainly, Peter's absence will see expanded roles for other series supporting cast members like the sweet Jasika Nicole as Walter's science aide, Astrid, as well as the re-introduction of Seth Gabel as a series regular, once again playing Lincoln Lee, who is now Olivia's investigator partner, Lincoln Lee, in the new universe. Also returning to the series will be the intriguing baldy men characters called The Observers (often played by Michael Cerveris, Peter Woodward and Eugene Lipinsky), gifted with the ability to see the past, present and future timelines of the universe, and William Sadler as Dr. Bruce Sumner. They'll also be a new recurring character, not yet revealed, played by DIRTY SEXY MONEY actress Michelle Krusiec...
As to the man who brought Peter Bishop to on screen life, actor Joshua Jackson has confirmed that somehow, somewhere, his character will indeed return, but how and when, plus the ramifications from his re-appearance and why this has all happened, have yet to be determined. The storytelling cards may be up in the air once more, and nothing and no one may seem what they appear in the somewhat slow building opening instalments, but one thing's for sure: the series devoted fanbase can't wait to see what happens next...
Seasons One to Three of FRINGE are now available on DVD and Blu-ray from WARNER HOME VIDEO. Joshua Jackson has also recently contributed an exclusive story to the DC comic book of the series. See the details here: Joshua Jackson to write Peter's lost stories in Fringe comics | Blastr
