Red is dead if you're not one of NIKITA's friends! Images: THE CW CHANNEL. |
At the end of its premiere year of action and adventure, the producers of the hit series NIKITA, showing on the US's CW channel, threw its audiences a major curve ball in the series plot/format as the finale episode saw the titular pariah assassin (played by Maggie Q) separated from her revenge fuelled protege Alex (Lyndsy Fonseca) -the pair now at differing viewpoints and objectives- as she was re-united with her on and off and on again lover Michael (Shane West) in their mission to expose and right the wrongs caused by the evil doings of the powerful Black Ops agency
Division, which remained under the leadership of the treacherous and ambitious Percy (Xander Berkeley). Alex, meanwhile, now revealed as the daughter of a Russian oligarch, has gone her own way after learning that Nikita had been involved in the death of her father, and is now determined to take back the dominant business empire he once created. The only way she can do this is, however, is to find herself back in the hot seat as an assassin, this time, working for
Division through a select group of CIA power brokers who help fund their rogue dealings. Her first mission: to find and eliminate Nikita!

Coming back to UK screens in early 2012 (presumably on SKY LIVING HD once again), the new series of 23 episodes should prove interesting and exciting as the two ex-friends, Nikita and Alex, each aware of the others abilities, partake in some hopefully bad-ass action showdowns involving guest stars the likes of 24's Sarah Clarke (appearing in several big-stakes multi-arc episodes this year), Devon Sawa, V's Rekha Sharma and series new addition Dillon Casey as Alex's new
Division overseer, Sean. The production team behind the series successful premiere launch remain pretty much the same this time around, too (including film director McG, UK film/TV visualist Danny Cannon, CSI's Ken Fink and Carlos Coto), and the series will no doubt look as glossy and well made as ever, and additionally promising more back story on the series heroes and villains. Never one to rest on her laurels in the adrenaline stakes, glamorous lead actress and martial arts heroine Maggie Q has been determined to push the stunt work to new heights for this second year, of which a new choreographer and team have come in to assist her fulfil those desires.
