GENERATION GAME! 'BLUE BLOODS' RETURNS

One family you don't want to mess with, personally or professionally. The Regans (Donnie Wahlberg, Bridget Moynahan, Tom Selleck and Will Estes) are back in BLUE BLOODS. Image: CBS.

Blood truly is thicker than water when it comes to being within a family of Police officers, especially those based from within the long established, crime hardened state of America that is New York City. The solid foundations of the generational Regan family return for their third season of police procedural drama from tonight, as BLOOD BLOODS exclusively makes its stance on the UK's SKY ATLANTIC HD channel. Well-cast Tom Selleck, Donnie Wahlberg and lovely Bridget Moynahan all return in their popular roles as pa Frank, cop Danny and prosecutor Erin, ready to serve and protect to the delight of the shows dedicated and loyal viewership. Certainly, Selleck is having a great time these days as a character actor, now long removed from the positive and negative aspects of having been linked to his iconic Hawaiian private investigation days on MAGNUM.

And this season looks set to have more strong cases and character interaction for the actors to grab a hold of: it's opening episode sees Danny taking on a dangerous criminal from his past (the always brilliant and intimidating Michael Madsen), followed by a clash with a corrupt councilman, the search for a vigilante shooter out for justice, a battle against a Malayasian drug cartel and even an investigation into a voodoo cult!

BIG APPLE, "BLUE BLOODS"

The family Regan, led by Frank (Tom Selleck, middle), make a proud force for New York law enforcement in BLUE BLOODS. Image: CBS PARAMOUNT.

He may not have managed to bag the movie star role, and win the whip and fedora, of Indiana Jones back in the early eighties, but Tom Selleck has more than successfully carved out a popular and memorable career on the small screen, in hit series like the long running MAGNUM P.I. -where he was one of the only men on the planet who could make wearing Hawaiian shirts actually look cool!- and a recent stint in the popular glossy trash eye candy, LAS VEGAS (where he took over the star power in its final season from the departing James Caan). Now, Selleck continues to earn his enduring audience success, alongside deserved critical acclaim, as the tough Irish-American matriarch of his police family empire, the Regans, as the hit New York based family drama/police procedural BLUE BLOODS, created by Robin Green and Mitchell Burgess for CBS, returns to the UK's SKY ATLANTIC channel from next Tuesday for a brand new run that sees in some additional changes made to the format but still keeping the same character arc ingredients (including the running thread of the dirty cops who killed Frank's brother) and moral complexity/life in the force aspects-for good and bad- that made the show a firm hit to start off with...

Here's the most recent press release regarding the series from SKY ATLANTIC:

KOOL TV BABE OF THE WEEK: "BLUE BLOODS" BRIDGET MOYNAHAN

The legal system just got a lot better! Bridget Moynahan in BLUE BLOODS. Image: CBS.
With on-screen character similarities, as well as real-life intelligence and beauty comparisons, to actress Veronica Hamel who played the popular Public Defendant Grace Davenport in the hit police series of the early eighties, HILL STREET BLUES, actress/model Bridget Moynahan continues the fine legal eagle tradition, playing tough and by the rules but caring and protective of her friends and family, as Matriarch Policeman Tom Selleck's daughter, Erin Reagan-Boyle, in the popular CBS drama BLUE BLOODS, now showing in the UK on the SKY ATLANTIC CHANNEL.

No stranger to TV, Moynahan clearly has the pick of the top projects available to her, and previously appeared in the JJ Abrams produced, New York based, inter-connected family/relationship drama SIX DEGREES, as well as providing memorable guest support in ELI STONE and the long-running SEX AND THE CITY. Still occasionally showing her cool looks and elegant figure within the modelling world and inside the pages of the glossies, she also maintains a fine career in films, with past box office hit credits such as I ROBOT (alongside Will Smith), LORD OF WAR (with Nicolas Cage) and the upcoming sci-fi action epic WORLD INVASION: BATTLE L.A. (alongside Aaron Eckhart). No matter whether their blood be red or blue, she'll continue to warm-up her male worldwide film and TV admirers for a long time to come!
